Veterans and military families across Idaho face unique legal challenges — but they don’t have to face them alone. The Idaho Military Legal Alliance (IMLA) is here to help.

As a statewide collaborative of attorneys, legal aid organizations, and veteran-serving institutions, IMLA is committed to providing free legal aid to veterans, active-duty military personnel, and National Guard members throughout Idaho. From Boise to Coeur d’Alene, from Twin Falls to Idaho Falls, we are expanding access to justice for those who have served.
What Is the Idaho Military Legal Alliance?
The Idaho Military Legal Alliance is a partnership between:
Idaho Legal Aid Services
The Idaho State Bar’s Military and Veterans Affairs Section
VA Medical Centers and Veterans Treatment Courts
Local law schools and pro bono attorneys
Together, we provide legal services to veterans across Idaho, focusing on civil legal matters that impact housing, benefits, family stability, and quality of life.
Legal Services for Veterans in Idaho
Veterans and service members often face barriers to legal support — especially in rural areas. IMLA’s goal is to eliminate those barriers. Through in-person and virtual clinics, we offer legal support in the following areas:
1. VA Benefits & Disability Appeals
Struggling to access the benefits you've earned? We can help with applications, appeals, and navigating the VA process.
2. Housing and Eviction Defense
We assist veterans with landlord disputes, unsafe housing conditions, and foreclosure prevention.
3. Military Discharge Upgrades
An unfavorable discharge can block access to benefits and healthcare. Our attorneys help veterans petition for discharge upgrades.
4. Family Law
Our clinics can assist with divorce, custody, child support, and guardianship — legal matters that deeply affect stability and well-being.
5. Consumer Debt and Identity Protection
Veterans experiencing credit issues, debt collection, or identity theft can receive help through our general legal aid clinics.
6. Wills and End-of-Life Planning
Through our Veterans Wills Clinics, we offer free preparation of wills, powers of attorney, and advance health directives.
Where to Get Legal Help for Veterans in Idaho
Legal aid clinics are held regularly at:
VA Medical Centers (Boise, Pocatello, Twin Falls)

Mobile and virtual clinics for rural areas

Why It Matters
Many veterans in Idaho experience legal challenges that threaten their housing, healthcare, income, and family life. Without access to free legal help, these problems can quickly spiral. The Idaho Military Legal Alliance was created to bridge the justice gap for Idaho’s veterans — especially those in underserved or rural communities.
